A Beginner's Guide to Subcutaneous NAD+ Injections

Everything you need to know about self-administering NAD+ at home, from setting your dose to the painless 5-step routine.

If you have decided to optimise your cellular health with NAD+, you have likely discovered that oral supplements (like NR or NMN) are highly inefficient. To get the maximum benefit, the gold standard is delivering pharmaceutical-grade NAD+ directly into your body, bypassing the digestive system entirely.

For many, the idea of self-administering an injection at home can seem daunting. However, subcutaneous injections—which deliver the liquid just beneath the skin into the fatty tissue—are incredibly simple, virtually painless, and take less than a minute once you know the routine.

In this beginner's guide, we will walk you through exactly what to expect, how to use the NAD+ Life Auto-Injector Pen, and tips for making your new wellness habit seamless.

Why Subcutaneous?

Unlike intravenous (IV) drips, which require a clinic visit and deliver a massive dose directly into a vein over several hours, subcutaneous injections are designed for home use. They use an ultra-fine, 4mm micro-needle (similar to those used by diabetics for insulin) that barely penetrates the skin.

The fatty tissue beneath the skin has fewer blood vessels than muscle, meaning the NAD+ is absorbed slowly and steadily into the bloodstream. This sustained release is ideal for systemic cellular repair, providing a consistent supply of NAD+ to your mitochondria and sirtuin proteins over several hours.

The 5-Step Routine

Using the NAD+ Life Auto-Injector Pen is designed to be foolproof. Here is the simple process:

1. Load the Cartridge

Unscrew the pen, insert a fresh 500mg NAD+ glass cartridge, and screw the pen back together. You only need to do this when a cartridge is empty (typically every 10 doses).

2. Attach the Needle

Take a new, sterile micro-needle, peel off the paper tab, and screw it onto the tip of the pen. Remove the outer and inner plastic caps.

3. Set Your Dose

Turn the dial at the end of the pen until the viewing window shows your prescribed dose (usually 0.15ml for a standard 50mg dose). You will hear a satisfying click for each increment.

4. Inject

Wipe an area of skin on your abdomen (a few inches away from your belly button) with an alcohol wipe. Pinch a small fold of skin, insert the needle straight in, and press the button at the end of the pen until the dial returns to zero. Hold for 5 seconds, then remove.

5. Dispose Safely

Carefully unscrew the needle and drop it immediately into your yellow sharps bin. Never reuse a needle.

Dosing and Storage Tips

The Loading Phase: When you first start, your NAD+ levels are likely depleted. We recommend a "loading phase" of 50mg (0.15ml) injected daily for the first 5 days to rapidly saturate your cells.

The Maintenance Phase: After the first 5 days, drop down to a maintenance dose of 50mg (0.15ml) injected 2 to 3 times per week. This is enough to keep your levels optimal.

Storage: NAD+ is a delicate molecule. Your cartridges must be stored in the refrigerator (2–8°C) at all times to maintain their potency. The pen itself can be stored at room temperature, but once a cartridge is loaded, the whole pen should live in the fridge.
